Khai EXPOSED! 8 Random Things

I’ve been tagged by my friend Kang of Kaizen! for the 8 Random Things Meme, this is where you spew out random little facts about yourself. When you are tagged, you must past the baton to 8 other bloggers and get them to do the same thing over and over again until there are no more bloggers left in the world (or the same bloggers get tagged multiple times)

Therefore, I am writing 8 random things about me! (This is a Greek alphabet, but the pronunciation sounds like Khai) Here we go!

(1) According to Edmund Loh, I currently hold the highest record for writing the most e-books in a single month - 15 books! (Well, that’s because I don’t know anyone who has accomplished this and I gladly welcome anyone to step up and claim this record) :)

These books were written for my own personal branding, ghostwritten for cash and co-authored with other Internet marketers for joint venture (JV) projects. I calculated the total cost of production of all these books and I think I must have single-handedly written more than $4,000 worth of material (that’s about RM15,000 in my country)!

However, I really feel that this tactic is quite suicidal (I originally intended to do 30 and that is overkill) and I might never do it again! The reason why I did this was because I was paying off the expenses for my wedding. As a matter of fact, some of these books were not sold yet. I have even more e-books sitting on my hard drive that I plan to sell off at a later date.

(2) Although I’m relatively new to Internet marketing, I’m proud to say that I have made money in my FIRST MONTH in Internet marketing. I’ve made more than $1,000 (RM3,500) worth of sales selling e-books relating to network marketing (not bad for my first month).

I still continue to make money consistently until now. I feel very fortunate because there are many Internet marketers out there who would testify that their learning curve was a costly one. Some even fail to make a single cent in their first year (for some, 2 or more years)!

However, I really admire their courage and perseverance. They have the faith to keep on going even though they don’t see the money coming in for a year and I feel really happy for them. It is a good business attitude that will get you places.

(3) You may be surprised to know that I don’t speak English most of the time. Throughout my life, I’m surrounded by Chinese speaking people. My wife comes from a Chinese speaking background and she refuse to speak to me in any other language other than Chinese (grr…). Whenever I tell people that I’m a copywriter, they give me a hard stare (to tell you the truth, I don’t even structure my grammar properly when I speak to others - I have to consciously do it)!

On the other side of the coin, many English speaking Malaysians are quite surprised that I speak fluent Chinese (Mandarin - the main, non-dialect language). They can’t believe that I’m actually Chinese educated since primary school (1st grade). Here is a bird’s eye view of the Chinese school where I came from.

Malaysia is a multi-lingual country so don’t be surprised to find people who are proficient in many languages.

(4) I’ve joined one too many network marketing (MLM) companies and ‘business opportunities’. My wife and I combined, I think we are members of more than 10 companies (some even pay for us to join) and have witnessed compensation plans of more than 30 MLM companies (which explains my proficiency at dissecting MLM compensation plans). I’ve sold everything under the sun - you name it (water treatment systems, aromatherapy, skin care, make up, home education courses, spa vouchers, soap powder, tooth paste, even pixel advertising!)

At one time, I was even swept away during the Autosurf, E-gold, HYIP phenomenon. (Don’t ever join those programs!)

If I have a starter kit for every MLM that I’ve joined (or given to me for free), I would have to get myself a new closet! I think I’ve spent more than $15,000 on these opportunities alone.

However, I never look back at the time that I’ve ‘wasted’ in these programs as something that I’ve loss. These business opportunities have built the foundation of my Internet business, equipping me with all the skills I need like confidence, goal setting, perseverence and knowledge. My experiences in these companies helped me to create e-books related to sales, marketing and self-improvement. I truly learnt a lot from MLM companies and I look back at those moments with joy (yes, even the autosurfs and HYIPs even though I lost money and would never do it again).

(5) I’ve only started writing for less than 8 months! Before I started Internet marketing, I was very poor when it came to written assignments. My lecturers would get angry at the quality of my work and one even commented that if I will never make a living as far as writing is concerned.

Ironic, isn’t it?

(6) Although I’ve only been working for the last 4-5 years, I have a very colorful resume. I’ve worked as a clerk, a computer technician, a loan executive, a tuition teacher, a piano teacher, a guitar teacher, a marketing executive, a tele-salesperson, and a retail store salesperson and a few others that I won’t bother to name.

Once again, every learning experience is a stepping stone that will contribute to your success someday. Though I wasn’t successful at most of those careers, it was a very good learning experience.

(7) I’m crazy about designer board games.

When I was younger, I kept on pestering my friends to play Monopoly, RISK and Cluedo. I didn’t know that designer board games (board games with the designer’s signature and profile) existed until my friend introduced my first board game called ‘I’m the boss’ and ever since that day, I was hooked.

I recently entered a board game challenge. The game we played is called ‘The Settlers of Catan’. I won a qualifier round last week. Next month, I will be participating as a contender at the national level and will be competing against many others for the grand prize - a free trip to Germany and the chance to compete with board gamers all around the world!

(8) I love singing! (Disclaimer - I love singing but others may not love MY singing)

I was in a Rock band several years ago and I grew up listening to Grunge, Alternative Rock, Heavy Metal and Punk. Even though I’ve hidden my electric guitar in the closet, I still go to Karaokes and sing songs by Linkin Park.

Whew! I’m done!

Now I will pass the buck over to these guys!

Melvin, are your friends that few? Worst case scenario: send all the tags back to Khai himself. I plan to do that… since like you, I don’t have many friends. :-(

    LOL! :-)
