Gearing Up For 2008!

Last day of 2007.

I bet millions of people all over the world are getting their pens and papers out (or the techie’s case - laptop…) ready to write their new year’s resolutions…

After all, the new year is coming… might as well get a new life don’t you think?

Not me… I know it is pointless to set new year’s resolutions.

Why?

Because I’ve already set my goals.

So instead of posting my new year’s resolutions on my blog, I’d rather reaffirm my existing goals.

Don’t get me wrong, setting new goals are very important! What I’m talking about is not about the setting of new goals in particular but rather the timing of the setting of new goals!

Look at it this way, it’s quite weird to to set a new year’s resolution, work at it fervently for a week or two - only to lose the desire after awhile and before you know it… “WHAT??! December already?!”

I guess the irony is, we only think about setting new goals because we feel that a new year gives us a fresh start. We set goals because:

  • We reflect back at the year that has gone by and realize that there is so much more we would like to accomplish, but failed to do so - so we strive to try harder!
  • We take it as an opportunity to accomplish MORE! After all, we all love to start from the ‘beginning’… how many people are there in the world who would love to write a ‘mid-year resolution’? Seems weird…
  • We feel that time is short - because another year of our lives had passed us by. They say that the only thing that goes up without coming down is our age…

Well, you may have your own reasons for setting goals, but for me, I would like to think of goal setting this way:

“You don’t need a new year to set new goals - everyday is a new day! Having another day to live on this earth is a gift from God.”

I know the thought of setting goals everyday is daunting. It is a tremendous struggle for me. But setting goals are really important. I we should be setting goals every quarter, every month, every week and if possible… everyday! People tend to set new year goals that seem too daunting (like trying to quit smoking, lose weight or make more money, but most of the time, those goals seem too hard to achieve) so it is better to set small daily goals and motivate yourself with every little achievement (never forget to celebrate the moment you make your first dollar online - it is a milestone!)

I’ve looked back throughout my 28 years on this earth. I would say that 2007 was hands down the most exciting year of my life!

Khai’s Milestones:

  • December 2006/January 2007 - Make my first thousand online during the first month in my Internet marketing career
  • February - Met Gobala Krishnan. Went under his ‘blogging mentorship program’
  • March - Met Vince Tan. Started a project with him that made me good & consistent income every single month (even until today!)
  • April - Started About Khai Dot Com. Joined Sen Ze’s company - SOLOBIS as an apprentice.
  • May - Went to my FIRST World Internet Mega Summit With Edmund Loh, Vince Tan, Gobala Krishnan and Melvin Ng. Met many Internet marketers there, most notably - Aurelius Tjin, Ladan Lashkari, Dee Ferdinand, Francis J, Kang, Dylan Loh, Dennis Sim, James Brown, Kevin Riley, James B. Allen, Ian Del Carmen and many more! This event was really an eye opener.
  • June - Took my writing & copywriting services to the next level. I started going all out to get more clients and produce more books. The result - written 15 E-books in a single month!
  • July - Registered for marriage with my dear wife, Yuenn. It was the last day of my bachelorhood - moving to the next level.
  • August - Built my first mailing list. It was a small list, but it was HIGHLY profitable! Launched Premium E-Products.
  • SEPTEMBER - Celebrated my 28th (and BEST) birthday! Broke the 5-figure mark in terms of income, and achieved 9th place in Edmund Loh’s Final Private Label Rights Blowout! Read about it here - it was quite dramatic.
  • October - Started getting recognition from other Internet marketers as a result of PLRGOLD. Clients were pouring in with request for copywriting work and other JV offers.
  • November - Got married (formal wedding ceremony) It was the best month of my life - those of you who attended my wedding, thank you!
  • December - Launching a new product (you will know about it shortly)!

Now, some people might be thinking, that’s quite a lot of achievements for a guy who has been in Internet marketing for only 1 year. (Trust me, I’ve no intention to blow my horn…)

To tell you the truth… I would love to convince you that I know a lot about Internet marketing - but that is not the case… I actually felt terrible because I’ve accomplished so little. I’m not trying to show false humility here… I’m glad that I’ve achieved those goals… but it could’ve been so much MORE!

I guess the reason why I felt this way was because of the people that I hang around with (in a good way) - Edmund, Vince, Gobala and Melvin are people who’ve inspired me and kept me going forward because I don’t want to get left behind. A friend of mine once said one sentence that gave me lots of wisdom, “If you are earning the most money amongst your friends, then it’s time to get new friends.”

I’m not saying that you must throw away your life-long buddies, but this is a brutally honest reflection of ourselves (as a result of the company we keep). We must learn to strive forward and rub shoulders with those who are better than us. Iron sharpens iron (you don’t want to rub yourself against something softer…)

So I’ll conclude this post by pondering on this thought, “Jan 1st 2008 is just another day - no different than yesterday or the day before or any other day. Everyday is a gift from God - live life to the fullest.”

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!

    Hi Khai,

It was great to read about your adventures in 2007. Yes, it’s been definitely a fantastic year for all of us.

I agree it’s very important to look back every year and see how much we’ve accomplished and learn from our experience and succeed even faster in the coming year.

Wish you a much better and even more “adventurous” new year!
