How Do I Make Money Online? (The Layman’s Online Guide)

I’ve been asked many times, “Khai, what do you do for a living?”

I’ve tried many different answers and people are still confused!

I don’t blame them. The idea of someone making money online is as foreign as having AB blood in an O-negative’s body.

My popular answers and their responses:

  • Internet marketing - “So what do you market on the Internet?” (This opens me to more questions and more scrutiny)
  • I teach people how to make money online - “So is it about investment or forex trading?”
  • I deal with E-commerce - “So is it about E-bay and Amazon? Is it about web designing?”
  • I sell E-books - “So does your books wind up on MPH (or Barnes & Nobles)”
  • I’m a copywriter - “So what is it that you COPYRIGHT?” (read this sentence again)

So as you can see, there is no answer that I can give each time that will not get either:

  • A confused look…
  • A skeptical look (what kind of scam is this guy up to?)… or…
  • A fearful look (please don’t recruit me into your Multi-level marketing or Internet marketing scheme…) It has NOTHING to do with recruiting people!!

Most marketers already know what I do for a living… so I’ve written this blog post as an answer to FAQs about what I do online.

Here goes (In layman terms):

(1) Writing Services

I write E-books and articles as a service provider. My core skill involves writing, doing research on topics such as making money online, self-improvement and various other niches. Over the last 12 months, I’ve written more than a hundred E-books.

Market potential: I’m looking towards expanding my work force. This involves getting more writing jobs and recruiting writers to work for me.

(2) Copywriting Services

Copywriting is none other than salesmanship in print. In other words, it is a combination of a good writer and a good salesman. The main goal of a copywriter is to write copy with the intention of converting sales or convincing others regarding a certain opinion. I’ve been doing copywriting work extensively for the private label rights industry (an industry where you can edit or brand yourself as the author of the content you are given the rights to and take full credit for it) and the resell rights industry (an industry where the owner of the E-product can resell the product as well).

Market potential: I’m selling copywriting services at the rate of $1,000 per sales copy.

(3) Blogging

Contrary to the popular understanding of what blogging is about, blogging is NOT just about boring, personal rants about my personal life, my friends and it is not just an open window to my personal diary.

People blog for money. I sell advertising spaces on my blog. I also promote other E-products on my blog. It also serves as a reference for my other services as well.

Market potential: There is huge potential in blogging - you can potentially drive up to hundreds of visitors to your site and make money out of every visitor. I also use my blog to build my customer list (refer to Internet marketing - below)

(4) Niche Marketing

Niche marketing is about marketing products or earning advertising revenue from niche markets. A niche market is a market that focuses on stuff that people would typically go to the search engine for information regarding their daily affairs - that is NOT related to business opportunities or even make money niches. In other words, it is gearing more towards more common stuff like fishing tips, how to build better relationships, training your pet or even cooking and cleaning your house better.

Market potential: I not only plan to create a few niche sites, I’m also a SUPPLIER for niche content that people can use to ‘private label’ and brand as their own.

(5) Internet Marketing

Internet marketing leans more towards teaching others how to make money online selling E-books, graphics, audio interviews, video, software and online services. In other words, it is more about marketers making money by selling digital products (and in some cases, some physical products) to other people who are interested in making a living on the Internet.

If Internet marketing is summarized as the ‘teach others how to money making niche’, in contrast to niche marketing, niche marketing would mean - ’everything else’.

Market potential: I market my own products and other people’s products through a mailing list or customer list. In other words, I send out promotions to my list of customers and they purchase the products I recommend. Next year, I plan to have a few thousand customers from all over the world.

So there you have it. Multiple streams of income, all executed in the comfort of my home. This is what I do in a nutshell and in layman terms.
