Live Through The Agony In The Present, For It’ll Be Worthwhile In The Future!
There was this silly duck who lived on a farm. Each day, it will waddle through the fields trying to take off and fly. The duck thought it was its destiny to fly like an eagle so it kept on trying and trying in spite of falling down everytime.
The duck had never left the ground.
The birds on the trees observed the silly duck on the ground wonder, “Why is that silly duck trying to fly?” The mother replied, “That silly duck thinks he’s an Eagle. That’s why he keeps on trying to fly.”
This story gives us a very sharp and sarcastic tone regarding our dreams. It tells us that we must never spend our time on pointless tasks. Wishful thinking and poor aptitude (imagine if you are a fish and you try to climb trees) only leads to frustration, disappointment and ridicule. In other words, don’t try to do the things you are not meant to do.
BUT THIS STORY ISN’T OVER …
One day, the farmer decides to round up the ducks and bring them to the slaughterhouse. All the ducks in the farm were captured. The silly duck that thinks itself to be an eagle tried to escape its doom by running away. The farmer started chasing the silly but agile duck and was unable to capture it due to its regular ‘training’ in the field.
The silly duck who practiced ‘flight training’ daily easily outran and outmaneuvered the farmer until it got away and became a free man (duck).
The daily training of the silly duck seemed pointless to others at first glance, but the duck actually managed to escepe the clutches of the farmer.
Maybe you and I have felt the same way towards people around us. Maybe the ones closest to us had scoffed at our dreams at times. You may think others are like the silly duck. Most of the time, we are the duck.
Successful individuals who go from rags to riches succeed not because they are lucky, but because they know the art of changing their destinies. They spend 20% of their energy creating 80% of their wealth. Generally, people spend 80% of their energy and wisdom to create 20% of their wealth - and fail to achieve success as a result.
When we observe our friends around us, their actions may seem futile to us. But, we must always encourage them. We are all like the duck, trying to fly towards our dreams and goals. There’s nothing wrong with wanting this for it is much better than doing nothing.
If the art of changing our destinies really exist in the world, then we must learn from the duck… it requires a kind temperament, a never-give-up attitude and have a very clear direction on where you are heading. For you will never know, success could be just around the corner.
